Download Sites And Affiliate Programs

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I have been running shareware download sites in one form or another for over 3 years and during that time I have become intimately familiar with many of the various shareware affiliate programs out there. Also in those 3 years I have also been able to formulate an opinion related to most of these programs and some, by no means all, of the vendors that choose to “participate” in these programs.
Out of the big 3 or 4 programs out there, RegNow, Share-It!, Plimus, and to a lesser extent eSellerate and RegSoft, only one really has a program in place to help affiliates make the most out of the program. That affiliate program is RegNow with their certification program. This program was put in place to help affiliates identify vendors that properly participate in the program by making it possible for affiliates to choose the vendors that use RegNow in a way that allows affiliates to earn commissions for their referrals.
Considering the fact that I have also used other affiliate programs like Commission Junction, Share-A-Sale and Clickbank, the question needs to be asked as to why any kind of certification program would even be necessary. With these programs and most other larger programs, a prospective vendor must provide a way for any of their affiliates to earn commissions for any referrals, if they don’t the affiliate program in question does not allow the vendor to join or stay in the program. In the case of shareware affiliate programs, this isn’t the case.
Even with RegNow’s certification program and in the case with just about all shareware affiliate programs, vendors are not required to, and a large number of them do not, participate in a way that ensures affiliates get credit for referring a sale.
Shareware affiliate programs do work differently than normal programs as they rely on prospective buyers first trying the product first before requiring them to purchase it. What this means is normally an affiliate will refer someone to download the trial version than rely on that visitor later buying the product. In almost all cases this requires that a cookie set when the user downloads the trial to be recalled later when the user returns to the vendor’s site to purchase the program. This is where the fatal flaw is in regards to shareware affiliate programs.
Why is this a problem? Cookies are the basis of most affiliate programs and other than the inherent flaw with cookies in general in regards to some people not allowing cookies to be set or those that regularly delete them, many vendors that participate in shareware affiliate programs choose not to use that program as their payment provider while others use that program along with other providers allowing the visitor to choose among several payment options. What this does is ensure that even with a cookie set, the referring affiliate has little if any chance of earning a commission for their efforts.
Now the question needs to be asked is why do affiliate programs allow this and why do many vendors choose to operate this way? In regards to the affiliate programs, vendors are their bread and butter, the more vendors they have the more opportunity they get to receive fees for their services. Whether or not an affiliate gets a commission or not does not figure into their bottom line as their money comes out of the vendors pocket, so as long as the vendor is happy, they are happy.
That leaves the participating vendors, why do they choose this route? As far as I can tell, there is pretty much only 2 reasons for them not providing an affiliate friendly program. The first would be ignorance, in theory I suppose a vendor could honestly not realize that they are making it impossible for their affiliates to earn a commission. They may not realize that the majority of affiliate commissions come from trial downloads that are later purchased versus a customer purchasing directly from buy links on an affiliate’s site.
The 2nd and far more sinister reason in my mind is that the vendors realize this but think they can get a larger number of sales by duping unsuspecting affiliates. Affiliates that do not know better spend their time and money doing the marketing for a vendor’s product and get nothing in return. They refer customers to the vendor’s site who then use other payment options outside of the affiliate program thus ensuring the vendor doesn’t have to pay the commission to the affiliate.
This tactic has been discussed at great length in the Regnow forum as well as other places and it still amazes me to hear some of the excuses brought forward by some of these vendors. One excuse relates to how these vendors feel that RegNow charges too much to process their payments so they must use other cheaper payment options and still others complain that they feel they shouldn’t have to pay affiliates because they don’t feel they earned a commission. They bring up the fact that many affiliates don’t do much to promote their product and hence shouldn’t be paid for this perceived lack of effort.
Now even looking at this from an affiliates point of view, I understand that many of us do not promote as heavily as we should, or as some vendors would like, but those that don’t will not last long anyway and as far as a vendor is concerned, why would you care? Even if an affiliate brings you nothing as far as sales, you are not losing anything as you only pay for sales, plus if an affiliate happens to bring you a sale, it is 1 more than you would have had.
New affiliates need to be aware of the pitfalls of shareware affiliate programs and if they choose not to spend the time and effort weeding out these vendors, they have no one to blame but themselves. In a perfect world, the affiliate programs would do this for you but that isn’t going to happen. And my question for vendors that join these programs and then choose not to properly participate, what is your excuse?

Become a Successful Webmaster With Affiliate Programs

Affiliate Programs

There are many ways to make money on the web. However, one of the quickest and easiest ways to start a web business is by working what are called Affiliate or Reseller Programs. An Affiliate is essentially a commissioned agent for a product or service. What happens is that as a commissioned agent, you (the Affiliate) get a percentage of sales after you (the Affiliate) have made those sales. Affiliates are also called Resellers, so you may come across this term as well. You can easily find Affiliate programs by going to the numerous Affiliate Directories that are on the web. You’ll find these directories by going to any Search Engine and typing in the phrase “Affiliate Directory.” Alternatively, if you’re surfing the web and come across a site that you like with a product or service you believe is valuable or useful then take a closer look at the site for links to their “Affiliate or Reseller Program.” Affiliate programs are usually free to join, and good affiliate programs will always have all the necessary tools for you to sell the site’s products or services.

Tips for Joining Affiliate Programs

Before you merrily join any affiliate program it pays to consider which affiliate programs are the best to join. These are the crucial program features that I consider necessary inclusions in any affiliate program.

•The affiliate program must have a generous payment structure. For me, this means a high commission payment, which is a high percentage of the purchase price – nothing under a 25% commission.

•Make sure the affiliate program you’re about to join has a professional looking site. You don’t want to send visitors to a site that looks unprofessional.

•Make sure that the affiliate program has a comprehensive affiliate statistics page, which lists the number of click-throughs, the number of sales, and the amount you’ve earned to date. This should be broken down by month.

•Make sure that these affiliate statistics are “real time”. This means statistics which are updated automatically and immediately. You do not want to find out today about a sale you made a week ago.

•Ensure that the affiliate program provides you with a wide variety of text links, banners and graphics to put on your web page. Personally I prefer to use text links. However, certain other types of banners and graphics still work well.

•Know how often you are going to be paid. If you’re tossing up between 2 programs and one pays monthly and the other pays quarterly, the one which pays monthly is a better arrangement. You don’t want to wait months before you get paid for your hard work.

•See if the affiliate program gives $ examples of how their top affiliates are doing. This can be a great indicator as to whether or not it is a good affiliate program. If some affiliates are earning many thousands per month, then it is a good affiliate program.

•If the affiliate program has examples of which marketing methods these successful affiliates are using to get their results, then this information is also most beneficial.

•An affiliate program, which offers a special monthly newsletter just for its affiliates is also great. Here, you’ll also get extra tips and information on techniques that are working well.

•See if the program notifies you by email when you make a sale, or you have an affiliate sign up under you (if it is a 2-tier program). It motivates you when you see ‘You’ve made another sale, or another Affiliate has signed up’ in your email inbox.

•Ensure that the program provides top-level support for its affiliates. If they cannot answer your query immediately make sure they respond within 48 hours. Good, timely support is critical to your success.

Commissions – The Higher the Better

A good way to identify if the management of an affiliate program you’re thinking of joining is serious about their affiliate program is by the commissions (percentage of sales) they’re willing to pay you for your effort. If someone is offering you 10% commission and they are keeping the rest, then you need to ask yourself this… “Should I really be in this affiliate program?” An affiliate program I recently joined called ‘E-Book Marketing Explained’ pays out 45% commission to their affiliates and another 10% on the 2nd tier. That’s 55% of the sale price!

Affiliate Marketing Techniques That Get Results

These are techniques that (when used consistently) bring good results.

•Spend time trying to get a higher ranking in the various search engines for your web sites. Learn as much as you can about search engines and make it a weekly task to try to improve your rankings in them.

•The word “free” and especially when written “FREE” is over used. Use it only occasionally on your site. For example you could use it to give away a free Ebook or free article you have written.

•Spend 75% of your time marketing your web site and affiliate programs and 25% of your time working on them. Most people spend about 10% to 20% marketing their web site and affiliate programs. Then again, most people online do not make any money.

•Use text links rather than banners for your affiliate programs. Text links have a much higher click through ratio. People have trained themselves to ignore banners.

•Write you own articles and post them on a separate page on your site. Then submit them to the article resource site.

•Check your clicks and sales regularly at your affiliate web site. If you see a slowdown in clicks and/or sales then alter your marketing tactics. Try something different. Do not continue using the same techniques if they’re are not working.

•Use newsgroups, but do this in a clever way. Stand out from the crowd. Use newsgroups to announce new articles that you’ve written. However, make sure that you read the rules of each newsgroup before you post to it, and never, ever spam.

•Do not use graphics that will slow down the loading of your web page. If your selling or pre-selling information is predominantly text, your site will load much faster. My site has one graphic on it. That’s right, just ONE.

•Subscribe to a number of newsletters, which are related to the theme of your web site. You can always get a lot of valuable affiliate tips from good newsletters.

•Post articles that other webmasters have written on your site, but ask them first. You can even do your own review of other people’s articles.

•Find out whether any affiliate programs you belong to have articles on their site, and find out if you can post them on your site. Then include your affiliate link back to the affiliate site at the end of the each article.

Why Might Open Source Software Not Be Right For My Online Store?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

So, you want to have your own online store. Is it going to be expensive to get started? Will you need web designers or an expensive solution to create that store? How big is the job?
If you don’t want to spend a small fortune on the software to create your online store and you do like to experiment with your own web development you might consider doing it yourself with open source shopping cart software. This can create an entire online solution for your online store and can even be integrated with other programs like your shipping software. It can manage multiple currencies, it can be multilingual, it works with many payment programs and new features and functions are added all the time because there’s a community that collectively and separately works to improve this evolving program.
There are several options here. You may choose to buy a solution, use a turnkey open source e-commerce solution or you can start from scratch yourself with something like OSCommerce. Many novice internet online entrepreneurs get started with free tools that they build up to service their needs. Open source software can be a great solution for three reasons.
1. It’s free. Got no money for startup costs? This can be a good DIY solution.
2. It’s customizable so it can be tweaked to meet your specific needs.
3. There’s a huge online community that supports other users of this tool.
The downside to open source solutions
You generally don’t get free 24/7/365 support when you have problems in the open source world. You are at the mercy of the community and the knowledge base. Unless you want to pay for expertise, it can take time to navigate through the information available on the software and trouble shooting your store can be a bit labor intensive.
There are turnkey open source solutions that you can jump into and begin using and then add on your own modules and there are an abundance of online sources and tutorials as well as community forums where you can pose questions and share your expertise as you build it. You may find that your problems are minor and easily fixable. This will depend on many factors including what version of the software you are using, how many different modules you have, outside factors and how complex your store is.
Do you know enough about technology to get started? Anyone can do some dabbling but if you are anxious, you might want to buy a turnkey solution and going it alone might not be the right choice for you.
There are also products out there with the open source mindset but designed to be easier as a point and click solution. Products like Zen Cart claim to be easier to work with for the novice and there are many resources that work with OS Commerce but that allow you the best of both worlds: to dabble on your own and to have support.
In summary, if you want a low cost or free solution and are willing to put time and effort into learning the tool and contributing to the open source community, you can use this to your advantage. Do your homework and look at your technical abilities, your requirements for your online store and your time constraints for troubleshooting, trial and error. It’s a great idea to lurk on some OSCommerce forums before taking the plunge. This can help you determine whether you have the knowledge and desire to use this e-commerce tool.

Calculating Cash-on-cash On A Real Estate Development Project?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

How can I calculate cash-on-cash return for a real estate development project if I have the pro forma (finds the net operating income) and a development budget. What would the formula be? My book doesn’t give a good explanation of this and it is for a homework assignment. I also have the overall return on cost calculated.

How To Choose The Right Business Opportunity Affiliate Program

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Business opportunity affiliate programs are still hot these days despite the horrible stories about those that fail in them. Nevertheless because of these scams, a lot of people get frightened with accepting business opportunities from an affiliate program entirely. But this should not be the case if you know how to choose well.
When choosing a business opportunity affiliate program you want to avoid being scammed. You need to get into a program that really offers a product or products and not one that just offers to give you money out of thin air. The good news is that there are indeed such business opportunity affiliate programs as this. Looking for one is easy if you know your way around.
Here are some tips on choosing a good business opportunity affiliate program:
1. Choose an affiliate program that promotes a product or service that you yourself are interested in. A program that provides goods that you like yourself would really work since you would be more interested to promote their products in the first place. It would really be hard to sell something if you do not like it in the first place. But if you like the product, you would know how to convince others to buy it, or better yet, to promote the product as well by being an affiliate under your network. Remember that passion is important for any successful business opportunity.
2. Choose an affiliate program that offers high quality products and services. Dubious programs offer bad products or no product at all and it would of course be difficult for you to promote goods of low quality. A high quality product reflects the quality of the affiliate program itself, which in turn assures you of a longer lasting business opportunity.
3. Choose an affiliate program that caters to an existing and growing market. The program may promote a very good product but the market may be stale. Soon enough you might be left with a saturated market that would not allow you to sustain the business opportunity for long. Be sure that the products the program promotes can still be sold for several years to come either because the market is growing or the need for the product is consistent.
4. Choose an affiliate program that provides you with great compensation schemes especially for residual income. Money is the reason you considered joining an affiliate program in the first place and you would of course want to choose a business opportunity that allows you to got optimal earnings. You might be just wasting a lot of time on programs that do not give you enough compensation for all the work you do for them.
5. Choose an affiliate program that does not impose sales targets or quotas that are impossible to reach. There are business opportunity affiliate programs out there that require you to reach an exorbitant goal before they would let your hands at commissions. You would have to spend life and limb just to earn in these programs. Be sure that the program you choose asks of realistic goals that you can handle easily.
6. Choose an affiliate program that gives you access to many resources and tools to make the most out of the business opportunity. Many affiliate programs just leave their affiliates alone in the dark and you would not to be one of those going about their business blindly. Explore the tools that the program offers to make sure that you can get the most of their offerings and that you can perform your tasks as best as you can.
7. Choose a program that offers rewards for continuing members and for membership renewals. This assures you that the affiliate program thinks of you as a long-time partner for their business opportunity. This also gives you a clue of how long the program wants itself to last. Knowing that they want to keep their members for long somehow signals you that the program intends to be an ongoing opportunity and not just a one-time thing.
8. Choose a program that allows you to ask questions especially about things that you might not be happy about. If you know other people who are already in that program, ask them about their experience to see of what possible downfalls you might face as well.
A business opportunity affiliate program can open you to a world of income possibilities. Just be sure that you are joining one that possesses these qualities to ensure that you would earn instead of lose.

Is Open-Source Web Document Management Software Your Next Document Nirvana?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Open source software solutions are becoming increasingly common and like certain fast food restaurants (no names will be provided of course), are unbeatable when it comes to “the current culture.” After all, everyone loves a good open source solution. It’s so valuable and so….well, F.R.E.E.

Free for a While?

When searching for a web document management software it’s important to remember that open source options can be valuable but also commonly lead to upgrades that are just as expensive as their corporate counterparts; and even if they are still less expensive, technical support and the quality of fixes, upgrades and enhancements can seriously be lacking. Of course this caution goes for any type of software and only serves to show that it’s the shoppers that really have to do the research.

The Bugs

Open source solutions are great when it comes to creativity and the cool stuff. Sometimes however with all this coolness in the inhalable atmosphere open source designers and developers aren’t as careful to exterminate all of the software bugs that would, at least by most corporate policies be zipped, zapped and buried in a matter of months. Who can blame the open source guys though? At least they know how to have fun!

The Key to Knowing

The key to knowing what software solution you are really looking for is by conducting a savvy financial analysis that consists of three parts.

Overall Ownership Costs

Overall ownership costs are fairly straightforward in terms of flat calculation. To begin your calculations simply start by determining how much the web document management software in question will cost over a period of five years. Five years isn’t necessarily a magic number but it just so happens that software happens to depreciate over that period of time give or take a little. Determining this cost will of course require your sharpest addition skills because you’ll most assuredly be purchasing more than one product or service. Take into account EVERY penny that the vendor plans to charge you for. Consider the primary software cost, validation services, hardware costs, implementation fees, maintenance, IT overhead, upgrades, additional software or any costs associated with revalidation. That’s a lot to consider but well worth creating the picture that provides the first acknowledgment that when it comes to a web document management solution selection your company may–or may not be–headed in the right direction.

Overall ROI

Determining your ROI can be tricky since it’s more of a projection than a determination but this step is as important as the first in painting the picture that will show your company whether or not a web document management solution will function well in a given environment. During the determination of the overall cost of ownership you determined what you would spend over a period of five years. Now, it’s time to determine what you will gain based on the functionality the software can offer. After all, if a software solution isn’t saving you overhead, process management costs what is it good for? You should project what the “sure fire” savings or projected growth will be from the software solution. You may be surprised to find that many of the open source solutions don’t “fit the bill” which may be a direct result of not fulfilling your user requirement specifications in the first place.

Overall Risk of Return

Calculating the risk of return is tricky because it requires an acknowledgment of variability. You should consider the potential variability that will be allowed in terms of your return and then determine whether or not the projects offers a high level or low level of risk for your company.

Conclusion

Determining whether open source web document management software is the right document management solution requires the same types of research that any other corporate system would require.

What You Need To Know Before You Join An Affiliate Program

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The affiliate program is still very much a hot topic in today’s world of online business in spite of the many scary stories about scams and schemes. Now a lot of people are torn about the decision to join them or not because at one side there is the potential of great opportunities to earn, while on the other is the possibility of losing. You need not be puzzled when you plan to join an affiliate program if you know important things to look for.
If you want to join an affiliate program, you must be careful so that you can avoid scams. You should join a program that genuinely offers goods and not those that just say they can give you money out of nothing. But you do not need o fret because there are many legitimate affiliate programs out there and looking for the right one for you is easy with a few ideas in mind.
Here are some of the things you should look for when you want to join an affiliate program:
1. The affiliate program should promote goods that you would want for yourself. If you like the products or services themselves, you are more likely to be able to promote the goods. Imagine selling something you do not even like or know about, it would be very difficult! But if you yourself like what you are promoting you would know how to promote the product or even convince others to promote the product for you as affiliates under your own network.
2. The products being promoted by the affiliate program you want to join should be of high quality you can be proud of. The goods very much reflect the kind of affiliate program you would be joining. Doubtful programs are reflected in bad products that signal the lack of sustainability of the program itself. In contrast, those programs that assert itself to be a long-lasting business opportunity are deemed to promote products with high quality.
3. The market being catered by the affiliate program you want to join should be growing. Good products are not enough, there must be an existing market that will continue to consume the product being promoted by the affiliate program. You would not want to end having so many products to sell with no one buying them because the market is already saturated. If the market is growing you are assured of the sustainability of the business being promoted.
4. There should be a good system of compensation offered by the affiliate program especially one that allows you to gain from residual income. The primary reason you want to join an affiliate program is to earn, and to earn you need an effective compensation scheme. The program should not waste your time by withholding a lot on earning opportunities for you. Aim for at last 30% commissions on sales.
5. The quotas sales targets imposed by the affiliate program should not be sky high. Some affiliate programs put a great burden on their members by setting schemes that are impossible to achieve. You would have to wait a long time before you get your commission if you join such an affiliate program. Before you decide to join a program be sure that you can handle their demands.
6. There should be a lot of resources and tools to make your job easier when you join the affiliate program. Some bad affiliate programs just care about recruitment, leaving their members unguided after they join. You need to make sure that they care about you enough to give you with materials to make transactions easy for you to do. Before you join a particular affiliate program explore the tools that they offer if you can.
7. Look for rewards on membership renewals or loyalty. Such programs show that the affiliate program do intend to keep you and other members in their roster, which means that they believe that their business would last long. Programs like these are more likely to be continuing business opportunities instead of just one-time ventures.
You should not be hasty when joining an affiliate program. An affiliate program could make or break your earning capabilities. It is important to find a good affiliate program which you can trust.

Open Source Goes Mainstream

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

We lawyers have noticed a trend: in the early days, open source software was seen as renegade stuff, unsuitable for mainstream business. Increasingly, however, businesses are utilising open source technology for a wide range of technology including fundamentals such as the operating software.

Red Hat is the most recognised commercial open source brand and is seeing significant growth year on year as open source products take off.

Open source products have been dogged by a reputation for unreliability and for a dubious audit trail for its intellectual property rights. This is a lawyer’s nightmare when it comes to buying and selling companies because of the difficulty in making sure that a user is not unwittingly breaching someone else’s rights.

Red Hat has nevertheless managed to carve a significant market for its product in the face of this reputation and is now taken as a mainstream provider, used by many organisations large and small.

Whether you are a company producing open source products or whether you are a company using them, it is essential that all of the implications of using open source are thought through strategically, having regard to the short, medium and long term aspirations of the organisation.

For users, the relative cheapness of open source products is clearly attractive. However, with the wrong provider, the disadvantages may outweigh the advantages.

Questions That you Need to Ask Before Joining Any Affiliate Programs

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

There are many people who like to joint affiliate programs widely available in the internet. However, there are few crucial questions that as an affiliate, you need to ask to affiliate programs. These questions will help you determine whether a program is reliable and will work for you in long run. These questions will clarify further the nature of the affiliate program and you would know whether any particular programs suit you or not.

One of the most important questions to ask to any affiliate program is, will it cost you anything to join the program? Most of the affiliate programs offered today are free. My suggestion is not to joint any programs that charges you and joining fee since I believe it is a rip off. Try to find the one that does not charge you and you are free to join or exit the program anytime.

Another question you need to find out is when do they pay your commission checks? Each program is different, and some will pay once a month, twice a month and etc. Most affiliate will require minimum commission amount before they are willing to issue a check out. There are also some affiliate programs that will pay only when the commission amount hits a certain predetermined amount that you have set earlier when you joint the program.

How are referrals from an affiliate’s site tracked by the affiliate program and how long do they remain in the system? Make sure you’re confident as to the quality of your particular affiliate program before you refer people from your site. This is also the only way you can obtain credit for a sale. In addition, the period of time that these people visit records stay in the system is also important. This is important, because some visitors will not initially buy anything, but they might want to return later to make a purchase after they have compared with other options. You need to know if you will still get credit for the sale if it is done at some point later, after the prospective customer’s first visit. Normal tracking/record tracking period should at least last 7 days.

Ask also what is the hit per sale ratio for a particular banner or affiliate link? A hit per sale ratio is the average number of hits to a particular banner or text link that it takes to generate a sale based on affiliate statistics. This particular element is very important, because it tells you how much traffic you have to generate to the affiliate link before you can earn a commission from a sale. It also tells you to certain extent how good or convincing is the sales landing page (prepared by the affiliate program) that a customer you referred will be reading once they clicks on your link or banner.

What kind of affiliate statistics do the program you are considering will be providing – if any? The statistics should be available online anytime you want to check them out. You need to consistently check your individual stats in order to know how many impressions, hits and sales have been generated from your site. “Impressions” means the number of times a banner or text link was reviewed by a visitor of your site. A “hit” denotes the particular customer clicking on the banner or text link in question.

Who are the online retailer? Who are you doing business with? Is it really a solid company? You need to do some Google search about any particular affiliate program name and see if anyone have reported anything bad about the program. Find out as much as you can about the retailer you are considering. The more you know about the retailer, the easier it will be for you to know if the affiliate program they offer is really for you and your site. You also do not want he affiliate program to cheat you, right?

Is the affiliate program a one-tier or two-tier program? A two-tier program if available will be good as it pays you a commission on sales generated by any affiliate you sponsored in your program in addition to that generated from your own sales. Some two-tier programs even pay small fees on each new affiliate you sponsor, something like a recruitment fee but not many programs offers this package. You should check this too since you could be leveraging on other people’s time and effort.

These are some of the questions that you could post to any affiliate programs that you intent to joint. If any of their answers seems to be not convincing, you should consider other programs since there are thousand of them in the internet.

TYPO3 has to be one of the best CMS programs I have ever worked with. While reading reviews on it I came across the people who didn’t like it. Textpattern

A free, flexible, elegant, easy-to-use content management system for all kinds of websites, even weblogs.

Built into Textpattern is Textile, a simple syntax for nudging plain text into structurally sound and stylistically rich web content. Ordinarily fussy text amendments such as headers, hyperlinks, image tags and tables are created with one or two simple markers. Compared to navigating the tag soup of markup, writing and revising with Textile is much more intuitive, being closer to working with ordinary text. Once you’re ready to publish, copy marked up with Textile is automatically converted to valid XHTML, and because Textpattern stores both versions of each article, revising and updating is a snap. When composing or readying articles for publication in Textpattern, you can switch between three views of the article:plain text, XHTML (the code with which a web browser renders the article), and a rendered preview.

Sites published with Textpattern can employ unlimited registered contributors, each of whom may be assigned privileges by the publisher of the site. Five levels of privileges (publisher, managing editor, copy editor, writer and designer) are provided, and each reflects different access to article creation, approval, editing and deletion, and to image uploads, page design and CSS, and of course adding more contributors.

Installing and managing plugins that extend Textpattern’s abilities is straightforward. Once installed, plugins can be turned on and off from within the Textpattern interface, where detailed help and access to parameters used by plugins is also available.

Open Source Web Development Companies

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Web development is fast pace, growing industry and has picked up at very fast speed with time. Whether you are looking for a simple static, HTML based website or flash-driven website with sophisticated design these companies have all to offers you. Designers, programmers and other IT professionals are very well equipped with latest tools and technologies. Open source has provided a hassle free programming and debugging as a result detecting bugs and fixing them in real time is not a problem these days. Web development in layman term is defined as developing a website for web, internet or WWW. No need to think and wait! at every door step you will find website design and development companies that offers B2B open source solutions, B2C website development, portal development solutions, ecommerce storefront development, dynamic websites development, database migration services or website migration services from static to dynamic sites. Customization of website has become simple and easy, many CMS provide free templates to choose from and this does not require much technical know-how, you can do all on your own as these are self explanatory and very easy to handle. These web site development companies are also providing web marketing and consulting services and web site maintenance.  People often include design and development into one shell but web development is entirely different from web design but both are very closely related. Developers, designers these days pay more attention on designing and developing SEO friendly website so that down the line web site can be easily optimized for search engines. SEO friendly websites easily gain ranking in SERPs and your website visibility improves for your specific service or product you offer in your targeted regions and globally. Web development is the hard core of the website but at certain point do considers web design coding, server configuration, common gateway interface, content development, flash development, interactive flash multimedia design.Open source web design development, open source development solutions are widely acceptable these days because source code is available free and open for editing, developers are free to amend code and upload web pages dynamically in real time. Microsoft technology restricts programmers and developers to make updation on their own and need to wait for the in between processes for approval ultimately we find more time consumption in version release but open source provide developers broader scope by providing free code. LAMP (Linux-OS; Apache-Web Server; MySQL-Database Server; PHP-Programming Language) is one of the tools that are widely used because it comes bundled and is free of cost. WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) helps users to make changes and all the changes are reflected instantly in real time. Website development companies are using Microsoft technologies, open source tool, RIAs to develop web applications and desktop applications with rich functionalities and interactivity. Online shopping websites are gift of these advance technologies. Amazon book store, yahoo store, social networking sites are few of them. Also, open source content management systems (CMS) have helped developers concentrate on core activities as content i.e. files, videos, audios, documents, etc. can be easily managed by its administrator and users, with out depending on developers to upload any change. Social media networks and communities are outcome of open source technologies like web 2.0, LAMP. Web development companies have made their good stake in the IT market and these companies help wide range of industries that span across range of domain and verticals to make their brand, corporate identity and hit the market sphere. These companies are client and customer focused and put their best to improve your return on investment (ROI) and their client retention rate. Offshore outsourcing of web development services to offshore and onsite clients have brought big brand players and small and mid sized companies on a common platform and all are today able to enjoy benefits of outsourcing. Development time is most important factor in web development cycle; agile development methodology, extreme programming, model view controller and rational unified process are some of the development methodologies used. Project outsourcing to India is unavoidable these days because of the India offers least risk in development; availability of rich resource, cheap labor, good infrastructure all together makes India most preferable outsourcing destination. Inspite of all the hassle, tangents and curves in web development path which are drawn with technological advancement these web development companies are developing tangible web solutions and has traversed its trajectory path to move ahead with projectile force.
