Open Source Windows Based Test Case Manager?

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

I’m looking for an open source Windows based alternative to HP/Mercury Test Director. My current application is Access based, which can’t handle a team and larger number of test cases. I really want an open source product that will run on Windows, either as Winform app or as hosted IIS app.
Any products out there that a development team has actually USED?

Installing Vb .net 2003 Onto Windows Vista?

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Can anyone tell me if it is a waste of time installing VB .NET 2003 onto a Windows Vista Machine for web Development purposes? I read that 2003 does not lend itself to web 2.0 architecture so I could not implement any web 2.0 solutions. Should I just bite the bullet and go get .NET 2005 or should I wait until Orcas becomes available?

How Do Creator’s Of Open Source Software Make Money?

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

My husband asked me this question last night while looking at a really cool software release. So I began to wonder myself. Do the coder’s make money? Will they eventually charge for its use once people love it, or sell the rights and then charge current users? Just curious if anyone knows.
Thanks–

Looking For Final Year Project Ideas – What Kind Of New Web Site Can I Create?

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

I’m a third year computer/information management studies student and I’m looking for ideas for what to do as a final year project. Leaving it a little late, truth be told… I am good with web development, and have learned C# .net over the summer.
I actually want to create a web site/service that is of real use to people, rather than just showing off my skills.
So can people please suggest some (serious) things they wish there was a web site for out there, and perhaps I could build it.
Obviously legal and not free mp3′s or porn or something silly like that.
Thanks!

How Start Programming In An Open Source Project?

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

I have a bachelor’s in Computer Science but have not used my programming knowledge/experience in the last couple of years. I want to re-sharpen my skills and think participating in some open source projects would help and be very interesting; but I really don’t know where to start.
– do I just find a project I want to help with? (where do I find one)
– is there a community for each project that I need to present myself to?
– if there is a project I’d like to help with, where do I begin?
– where can I help smaller projects and warm up?
I hope you get the gist of this question, any guidance would be GREATLY appreciated.
thanks,
-Nico

Vb.net– How Do I Compile An .exe Just Like I Did In Vb6?

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

I miss my VB6 days and would love to re-live them using my new VB.NET ide. When I put together a Solution, it’s not automatically apparent how to make an .exe file, and I’m suspecting it’s not done from within any of the the development environment toolbars.
