How Can I Begin To Contribute To Open Source Projects?

I’d like to contribute to something, but I don’t know what or how to start.
I already know how to program.
Any ideas about how to get started?

    Go to source forge. It is a huge development area for projects. Find one that interests you and see if the are soliciting for volunteers.

    Try writing software in the medical and biomed fields. We have an aging population, and this is where a young person can “make a difference.”
